China's Huate Magnet sets new size records with latest magnetic separator and filter models

Jan 04, 2024

In what it claims are the world's largest vertical ring Wet High Gradient Magnetic Separator (WHGMS) and High Gradient Magnetic Filter (HGMF) recently rolled off the production line at leading Chinese magnetic separation equipment and technology supplier, Shandong Huate Magnet Technology Co, based in Linqu Economic Development Area, Weifang City, Shandong. Specifically, the LHGC–5000 vertical ring WHGMS it says has the largest diameter (5 m) of ring in the world and the HTDZ–2000 high gradient magnetic filter has the largest diameter (2 m) of separation chamber in the world.

Huate Magnet designed, developed and manufactured the units, it says adhering to the highest industry standards in the high–end mining markets of Europe, Australia, South America and North America. Zhaolian Wang, Chairman of Huate Magnet, commented: "The world's largest intelligent vertical ring wet high gradient magnetic separator and high gradient magnetic filter, have rolled off the production line. This is not only an important milestone in the development of Huate Magnet's magnetic separator industry, but also an important breakthrough in high-end magnetic mineral separation equipment for China and the wider world."

The LHGC–5000 intelligent vertical ring WHGMS has a 5 m diameter of its core ring component, 10 m equipment height and 500 t weight, with the maximum single part weight not exceeding 80 t. It has excitation power of 160 kW, a background field strength of ≤1.8T ( Tesla), feeding particle size of ≤3 mm, and throughput of up to 2,000 m³/h. It can process haematite up to 1,000 t/h, quartz sand up to 400 t/h while the electricity consumption per tonne of mineral is about 0.3 kW/h.

The excitation coil adopts oil–cooled external circulation for heat dissipation, and the extra–large components such as the vertical ring adopts a split structure and modular assembly. It has functions such as automatic liquid level adjustment, automatic lubrication, real–time detection and alarm of pressure and temperature, and realizes intelligent operation. The Internet of Things and big data analysis technologies have been adopted to realise remote operation and maintenance, fault diagnosis and full life cycle management.

Its potential is mainly in the separation of weak magnetic minerals such as iron oxide, titanium, manganese, chromium, cobalt and rare earth minerals, or in the removal of iron and impurities from non–metallic minerals such as quartz and feldspar. Huate Magnet has produced more than 2,000 vertical ring high gradient magnetic separators for applications in China and around the world.

The HTDZ–2000 high gradient magnetic filter is with a separation chamber of 2 m diameter, 7 m equipment height, 170 t weight, and the maximum single part weight does not exceed 30 t. It has excitation power of 200 kW, background field strength ≤1.8T ( Tesla), feeding particle size ≤1 mm, and throughput up to 400 m³/h. It can process quartz sand up to 100 t/h with electricity consumption per tonne of mineral of about 2 kW/h. The excitation coil adopts oil–cooled external circulation for heat dissipation, adopts rapid magnetisation and demagnetisation technology, as well as multi–tube and multi–point uniform distribution technology.

The HGMF adopts human–machine interface and automatic control, and has a high degree of automation. It is mainly used for non–metallic minerals such as quartz sand, feldspar, kaolin, etc to remove weak magnetic impurities such as iron oxide, titanium, mica, etc to improve the purity of the materials. More than 500 high gradient magnetic filters produced by Huate Magnet have been delivered in China and globally.

Shandong Huate Magnet Technology Co Ltd was founded in 1993, and is headquartered in Weifang, China, with a total plant area of 270,000 square metres and having 800 employees. Huate Magnet is the chairman unit of China's Strategic Alliance of National Magnetoelectric and Cryogenic Superconducting Magnet Application and Industry Technology Innovation. Its main product of magnetic separation equipment has been recognised as a national–level manufacturing single champion product by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.

It adds: "In recent years, Huate Magnet has successfully developed high–end magnetic separation equipment such as athe 1850 large–diameter wet drum permanent magnetic separator, raising concentrate grade and decreasing gangue content." Other equipment includes drum permanent magnetic separators and cryogenic superconducting magnetic separators. The pruducts have been exported to 30 countries such as Germany, Australia, the Czech Republic, India, Brazil and South Africa.

In 2016, Huate Magnet began a collaboration with RWTH Aachen University to establish an Industry 4.0 intelligent magnetoelectric beneficiation technology research and development centre, out of which was built China's largest and world-leading intelligent magnetoelectric beneficiation technology research and development key laboratory. In addition, Huate Magnet Australia Co Ltd in Queens Park, Perth and the AMG – Huate Mineral Processing Technology Research Centre in South Africa have been established, focusing on mine engineering technology consultation, mineral processing test-work research, equipment installation commissioning, and beneficiation plant EPC turnkey project service.
